Words Are All I Have

If only words could describe, the thrill of actual travel, then each one of us would have been happy high reading travel quotes. In this world when there is place ample to wander, I choose to pick few of my all time favourite travel quotes and statiate my hunger to sniff new locations as I sit and write this piece. Explore the world, hug it and break free as if there is no tomorrow.

American novelist and poet, Jack Kerouac nicely weaves these words saying I want to work in revelations, not just spin silly tales for money. I want to fish as deep down as possible into my own subconscious in the belief that once that far down, everyone will understand because they are the same that far down.

Adding to it that the whole thing is a world full of rucksack wanderers. I believe in following your wanderlust to your bliss and living life to the fullest; every aspect of my life seems to flow from that basic ambition. My yen for travel is a metaphor for my quest for knowledge.

The 30-year-old bartender NickMiller has something awesome to say. In simple words he puts that Travel is little beds and cramped bathrooms. It’s old television sets and slow Internet connections. Travel is extraordinary conversations with ordinary people.

Travel is all about flowing in the back of a bus with some giggly, funny looking strangers. It’s a street full of bearded backpackers looking down at maps and having a question mark in their looks. Travel is wishing for one more bite of whatever that just was.

It is no less than the rediscovery of walking somewhere. It’s sharing a bottle of liquor on an overnight train with a new friend. Travel is “Maybe I don’t have to do it that way when I get back home.”

Wanderlust is an irresistible impulse. It’s something more fickle- something more like lust as the Vancouver born journalist Elisabeth Eaves puts it. We don’t lust after very many things in life. We don’t need words like worklust or homemakinglust. But travel? Anatole Broyard put it perfect in his essay Being There: Travel is like adultery: ‘One is always tempted to be unfaithful to one’s own country. To have imagination is inevitably to be dissatisfied with where you live…in our wanderlust, we are lovers looking for consummation.

For travel all you need is ‘that’ courage to leave behind everything, walk ahead of your comfort zone and move on. American chef, author Anthony Bourdain very rightly said “Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life – and travel – leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks – on your body or on your heart – are beautiful. Often, though, they hurt”
